For the past 15 years I have partnered to build two businesses. In one, I I am CFO, which really means that I take care of the Quickbooks, the employees, subcontractors, vendors, taxes...all the minutia of the "business" side of a creative owned and operated business.
In that time I have also built a successful photography business, specializing in high school senior portraits, headshots, profile photos, and most recently personal brand photography. This business taught me social media marketing, curation and execution. I have learned Facebook ads and Google Ads. I curate Instagram feeds along with microblogging. I have also written actual blogs. Some of my other endeavors include building websites on Squarespace, Zenfolio, Sticky Folios, and a sprinkle of WordPress.
Both of these businesses thrive due to my organization, time management and interpersonal skills. Being a photographer is so much more than taking photos. It's about building confidence in your client, getting to know them, setting them at ease. It's a customer service business. My clients come to me as strangers, but they leave my friends.
As a well rounded business woman, I have worked in other creative industries, teaching creative workshops. Event scheduling, planning and event styling are also part of my expertise.
Working with my Hourly Admin clients also includes the usual office duties of light bookkeeping, filing, data entry, travel planning, scheduling, brand photography, proof reading, dog grooming. Ok not dog grooming, but I will take your pooch to the doggie spa. In other words, personal tasks and errands, as needed.
I am a southern girl living in Southern California. I still have an accent, say "yes ma'am" and "y'all" and listen to country music. I have an Oreo Thins addiction and never say no to a Diet Coke. I share my home with my 2, nearly grown kids, my Boston terrier, Floyd and his sidekick, Lola the pug. We have a loud, crazy, fun house that probably scares my elderly neighbors.
Everyday that you learn something new, is a good day. I am perpetually looking for online workshops or in person events to further my business and creative sides. I have learned much of my marketing and social media savvy from webinars and in person seminars. I am a self taught photographer who also taught herself Photoshop and Lightroom, then by seeking out mentoring to fill in the areas that I felt needed more polish. I have learned Quickbooks both just by doing, but also by seeking out those with more knowledge to teach me new things. I attend at least one in-person weekend workshop event each year to further my learning in both the creative and marketing aspects of my business.
